Art Therapist II

Title: Art Therapist II (4206)

Salary: $33,444 - $52,886 (Grade 13) (Effective July 1)

Closing Date: Open and Continuous

Description: An Art Therapist II is the full performance level of work performing art therapy in the treatment of mentally ill, aged, physically ill or disabled patients; or developmentally disabled clients who are residents of State treatment facilities or community based programs. Work includes the for assessment, planning and implementation of clients'/patients' art therapy treatment. Employees in this classification may supervise Activity Therapy Associates, Direct Care Assistants, students and volunteers assigned to the art therapy program.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in art therapy from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience performing art therapy work in the treatment of mentally ill, aged, physically ill or physically disabled patients or developmentally disabled clients.

Notes:

1. Current registration as an Art Therapist from the American Art Therapy Association may be substituted for the education requirement.

2. Four years of experience as a professional art therapist, under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, licensed Physical Therapist or certified Activity Therapist, which included the responsibility for clients' assessments and the planning, implementation and evaluation of clients' art therapy treatment in a mental health or developmental disability setting may be substituted for the education requirement. Experience assisting in these responsibilities will NOT be accepted as qualifying experience.

Licenses, Registrations and Certificates:

1. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland, and their driving records will be subject to investigation. Employees in some positions may be required to operate vehicles which require a Class "C" motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. The appropriate motor vehicle operator's license will be required.

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification. Employees in positions at facilities with a swimming pool may be required to obtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety prior to permanent appointment.

Special Requirements of the Classification:

1. Applicants may be given a medical examination and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the work required of the position prior to the appointment.

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to provide the facility with a telephone number where they can be reached.
