Please be advised: The Child Support Specialist series is tested quarterly. There may be an extended period before you receive notice concerning the review of your application. POSITION DUTIES: This is the full performance level of child support work. Employees in this classification investigate and analyze child support cases and initiate appropriate actions to establish, maintain and enforce support payments for dependent children in accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, rules and regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for testing for this classification, you must possess the following…
Education: An Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university in Social Services, Human Services, Legal Studies, Public Administration or similar fields of study.
Experience: Two (2) years investigating and analyzing child support cases and initiating appropriate actions to establish, maintain and enforce support payments for dependent children in accordance with Federal and State laws, rules and regulations.
NOTES:
1. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required education.
2. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social services, human services, legal studies, public administration or similar field of study may be substituted for the required education and one year of the required experience.
3. Experience investigating and analyzing child support cases and initiating appropriate actions to establish, maintain or enforce support payments for dependent children in accordance with Federal and State laws, rules and regulations may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
4. Experience determining eligibility for government assistance programs may be substituted for one year of the specific program experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the employment list categorized as Best Qualified. Candidates shall be certified to the employment list for a period of one year. This list will be used by hiring agencies to select employees.

No written examination is required. You will be rated on the basis of the information contained on your application. It is essential that you give complete and accurate information on your application.

Qualifications: You must possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State job. Verification will be completed by the appointing authority. If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process. Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of an examination. Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary or volunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week. You must include on your application the time you spent in such activity. You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.
Eligibility: Applicants will be notified when and where to appear for written, oral or demonstration examinations. Some examinations may consist of an evaluation of relevant training and experience. If further information is needed, notice will be sent to the candidate. Candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the classification for which they apply, will not receive a ranking and their name will not appear on the eligible list.
