SALARY:    $34,113 - $53,944

POSITION DUTIES:  A Correctional Dietary Officer I, Cooking is the intermediate level of work involving the custody, security and supervision of adult inmates in food preparation and serving of meals at correctional institutions.  Vacancies for this classification exist throughout the State.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Each candidate must:

Education: Have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission Regulation

AND

Experience:  Have two years of experience cooking in a large-scale food operation in a commercial, institutional or other establishment

OR

Have two years of experience involving the custody, security and supervision of adult inmates in food preparation and serving meals at correctional institutions.

Notes:

1. A two-year culinary school degree or 30 credits in culinary arts courses may be substituted for one year of experience.
2. Employees are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
3. Selection standards for correctional officer certification are established by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code.  These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:

U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
Must be 18 years of age
A completed background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination.

4. The educational requirement is set by the Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209.
5. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations, 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

QUALIFICATIONS:  You must possess the minimum qualifications to be considered for this position.  If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the assessment, you may participate in the examination process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of the assessment.  However, such candidates will not appear on eligibility lists until documentation has been received that the educational and experience requirements have been met.  Credit may be given for relevant part-time, temporary, or volunteer experience, if you list the number of hours worked per week.  All information used to determine your qualifications must be submitted by the closing date.  Therefore, be sure that you accurately and thoroughly complete the application.
