Dance Therapist I

TITLE: DANCE THERAPIST I (4224)

SALARY: $32,091 - $50,563 (Grade 12)  (Effective July 1, 2008)

CLOSING DATE: Open and Continuous

DESCRIPTION: A Dance Therapist I is the intermediate level of work performing dance therapy in the treatment of mentally ill, aged, physically ill or physically disabled patients, or developmentally disabled clients who are residents of State treatment facilities or community-based programs. Work includes the responsibility for assessment, planning and implementation of clients'/patients' therapy treatment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Dance Therapy from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE: None

NOTES:

1. Current registration as a professional Dance Therapist from the American Dance Therapy Association may be substituted for the required education.

2. Four years of experience as a professional Dance Therapist, under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist or certified Activity Therapist, which included the responsibility for clients' assessments and the planning, implementation and evaluation of clients' dance therapy treatment in a mental health or developmental disability setting may be substituted for the education requirement. Experience assisting in these responsibilities will not be accepted as qualifying experience.

LICENSES:

1. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland, and their driving records will be subject to investigation.

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete (CPR) cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.

3. Employees in positions at facilities with a swimming pool may be required to obtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety prior to permanent appointment.
