RECRUITMENT FOR: DEPUTY STATE FIRE MARSHAL II – EXPLOSIVES OPTION
SALARY: $36,195 – $55,723
CLOSING DATE: Open & Continuous
POSITION DUTIES: A Deputy State Fire Marshal II, Explosive Option, is the full performance level of work as a law enforcement officer in the field of fire and explosive prevention. Conduct inspections at on-site blasting operations and explosive storage facilities. Disarm bombs and explosive devices. Transport explosive devices, fireworks and unstable chemicals to a safe storage area for disposal. Conduct investigations of fire/explosive scenes. Prepare cases for prosecution by the courts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Each candidate must:
Have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate accepted by the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Police Training Commission regulation in accordance with Public Safety Article, Title 3, Subtitle 2, §3-209, Maryland Code.
Have two years of experience inspecting and disposing of explosive materials and devices and investigating the origins and causes of explosions.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATION:
To be considered you must have one year of experience as a current certified police officer or currently eligible for re-certification.
NOTES:
1. Possession of a driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland
2. Employees are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, must have ready access to a telephone.
3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
4. Employees in this classification will be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.
5. Travel throughout the State may be required.
SELECTION PROCESS: Those candidates who meet minimum qualifications will be placed on an employment list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED OR QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of the examination. The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.
