Hourly Rate $20.24 (all re-hired officers)
Important Salary Information:
- The earnings limitations applied by Article 25-403 of SPP as amended by the 2006 General Assembly on retirees of the Correctional Officers’ Retirement will be waived for a four-year period.
- Shift differential will be paid to employees who work a qualifying shift and cash overtime will be paid to employees who work in excess of 40 hours in the workweek.
- An applicant for a contractual correctional officer position who has not reached normal retirement age of 59 and a half should consult their tax advisor to be sure the IRS 10 % tax penalty would not be applicable to your specific situation.
Note: In order to be considered, interested applicants must meet the following “Hiring Guidelines”
- The applicant must be a retired Correctional Officer who previously held the rank of Correctional Officer I, II, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain or Major.
- The retired correctional officer must be retired and separated from service for a minimum of 45 days.
- Contractual correctional officers will be expected to attend roll call and will be paid for attending.
- The applicant will have a State and Federal criminal record check. The applicant can be hired based on the results of a State record check that does not have any offenses that would prevent re-certification. If the federal record check reflects offenses that would disqualify the employee for re-certification, the employment contract will be terminated.
- There will be a Motor Vehicle Administration record check.
- There will be a Judicial Information System record check
- The applicant will have a drug test. The applicant will be asked about drug usage
between the date of retirement and the interview.
- If retired more than 90 days, there will be a check of employers and co-workers if the applicant has been employed since retirement.
- If retired more than 90 days, there will be a check with personal references and neighbors.
- The results of the investigation will be forwarded from CCHU to the appointing authority that is considering hiring the applicant.
NOTE: Certification and Recertification Guidelines
- If you have been separated from your former position less than three (3) years, you will be required to obtain the required in-service training hours mandated by the Correctional Training Commission prior to the end of the calendar year in which they are re-hired.
- If you have been separated from your former position for more than three (3) years, the Division of Correction will work with the staff of the Correctional Training Commission to develop test(s) that indicate that you have retained the knowledge required for the academic portion of the entrance level training program. If you successfully complete the test(s) you will be required to complete the skills portion of the entrance level training program prior to certification.
