Maryland Loan Assistance Repayment Program for Foster Care Recipients (MLARP-Foster Care)
MHEC is pleased to offer loan repayment assistance to foster care recipients who have been placed in an out-of-home placement by the State or local DSS for three years.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be an individual who was placed in an out-of-home placement by a state's or unit of a state government's department of social services for 3 years or more.
- Must have earned either an undergraduate or graduate degree from an institution of higher education in Maryland.
- Must be employed for a minimum of 20 hours per week in state, county or municipal government in Maryland.
- Must have higher education loans from a university, government, or commercial source that you used to pay college expenses. You may not be in default on a loan.
Who may apply:
Foster care recipients who are employed by the State, county, or a municipality of the State.
How to apply:
Complete an MLARP-Foster Care General application and submit any supplemental documentation by the established deadline.
Award amount is the lesser of:
$5,000 or 10% of the total higher education loan debt for each qualifying year
Renewal Requirements:
Award is renewable for 3 years as long as recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements & sign a service obligation agreement agreeing to remain employed by the State, county, or mu- nicipal government for at least 1 year after the expiration of the term of the award.
