Education and Outreach

The OSEEOC is committed to providing training, technical assistance, and resources to assist Fair Practices Officers, EEO Officers, ADA Coordinators, stakeholder groups, and employees so that they understand their civil rights and the prevention of discrimination. Training opportunities include but are not limited to virtual and in-person facilitation, workshops, train-the-trainer sessions, and more. OSEEOC staff members are available on a limited basis to make presentations and participate in meetings at the state of Maryland government agencies on an as-needed basis.

Statewide EEO Program Overview (Duration: 1.5 hours)

This training introduces newly appointed Fair Practices Officers, EEO Officers, and ADA Coordinators to the State of Maryland government’s Equal Employment Opportunity Program, whose purpose is to ensure a system based on merit that provides equal opportunity in employment based on merit and fitness.

Maryland Whistleblower Law Overview (Duration: 1.5 hours)

This training provides Fair Practices Officers, EEO Officers, and stakeholders with an overview of the Maryland Whistleblower Law in the Executive Branch of the State Government. It also covers applicability requirements, disclosure of information—protected disclosures, time frames, filing of complaints, actions on complaints, and the appeals process.

Annual Statewide EEO Report: What You Need to Know (Duration: 1.5 hours)

This training provides Fair Practices Officers, EEO Officers, and ADA Coordinators with an in-depth overview of the Annual Statewide Equal Employment Opportunity Report that is mandated to be published by the Office of the Statewide EEO Coordinator on or before January 1 each year. It will also review specific data and information from the most recent report at the time of the training.

The Fundamentals of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADAAA), State Disability Laws and Policies, and the Reasonable Accommodations Process (Duration: 2.5 hours)

This training provides Fair Practices Officers, EEO Officers and ADA Coordinators with a comprehensive review of federal and state of Maryland disability laws and policies as well as procedures. Specifically, topics covered include defining the term disability, exploring reasonable accommodations, engaging in the interactive process, determining undue hardships, confidentiality and maintaining documentation.

Reasonable Accommodation Requests and the In​teractive Process– A Hands on Approach (Duration: 2.5 hours)

This training focuses on Fair Practices Officers, EEO Officers and ADA Coordinators applying federal and state of Maryland ADA laws and policies to reasonable accommodation request scenarios. Professionals will work in small groups to assess and propose steps to resolve their assigned scenarios and present to the facilitator for feedback. Upon successful completion, professionals will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to engage in the interactive process with confidence and in compliance with ADA laws and policies. 

Prerequisite: The Fundamentals of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADAAA), State Disability Laws and Policies, and the Reasonable Accommodations Process.
