2015 Intern Testimonials

Ariana Tovar
Ariana Tovar - Student, CIP/DBM intern with the Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation:

This year I have had the privilege of working at the State of Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation. It’s a very interesting experience and I have learned a lot these past few months. Students can see what they will be looking forward to during and after high school.

My internship supervisor and co-workers are very friendly and always help me when I have trouble with a task. I think other departments should give students a chance to work because it’s a life changing experience.

Some of my duties include data entry (keying in forms), proofing, using the microfiche machine and more. I am tasked with entering forms and basically seeing if a business is really a business in the State of Maryland. I do this by checking to see if there are any errors in the submissions and checking the tax ID number. Correct returns go in a cart to be completed by using the microfiche to research and print out a certain number of pages that belong with that company.  I just want to say it is an honor to work within the Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation.

My job at the Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation has been wonderful. It is a pleasure working here. It is an amazing opportunity and a great start to gaining some work experience while I am a student.

My co-workers and I get along perfectly. I am very thankful to have this job and hope that I am invited back next year as well.

I have been working at the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation since September of 2014. Part of my duties include inputting data, opening and organizing the mail, and filing. While interning here at DAT I have learned to be more responsible, to work to the best of my ability and what it is like to gain some really life workplace experience.

Vincent Blount – Student, CIP/DBM intern with the Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation:

The Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation is a great place to work and the people here are great to work with too. There is a lot of work to do and I am told each week that my efforts play a big part within our department. Part of my duties include data entry of businesses information, filing, transporting boxes and checking reports for errors. One of the biggest projects I have worked on since joining the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation team was organizing the filing room and getting all of the batches of work together by date. Upon completion of this project my co-workers were able to locate work a lot quicker.

There are some days I am not able to complete all of my goals regarding work however my supervisor is understanding and will allow me to finish the following day. In addition, she listens to my suggestions and sometimes implements them within our department; this allows me to feel more a part of the team and gives me more confidence about my work. I really feel I have been accepted in this department as a student, friend and fellow employee.
