THIS IS A PROMOTIONAL RECRUITMENT LIMITED TO ALL QUALIFIED EMPLOYEES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND CORRECTIONAL SERVICES.

SALARY: $46,563 - $74,725

CLOSING DATE: OPEN AND CONTINUOUS

POSITION DUTIES: This position is one of the three levels of managerial work involving the custody, security and control of adult inmates confined in a correctional facility. Employees manage the work of correctional officers through the rank of Correctional Officer Captain.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Each candidate must:

Education: Have graduated from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience: Have two years of experience supervising the work of correctional officer supervisors in the custody and security of adult inmates.

Note:

Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of sixty credit hours for one year of the required experience provided that a minimum of 15 credit hours are in the field of criminal justice or related social sciences.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE CLASSIFICATION:

1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a correctional officer during their probationary period (Article 41, Section 4-301). Selection standards for correctional officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:

*  U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
*  Must be at least 18 years of age
*  A completed background investigation
*  Oral interview
*  Physical examination.

2. Employees in this classification will be required to bear firearms, and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.

3. Employees are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, must have a telephone at their place of residence.

4.Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

5. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION: Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list for this classification. Appointing authorities will use the list for promotional appointments. The list will be established for an initial period of three years and may be extended.
