Position summary: The Lead Systems Administrator performs advanced technical work in the design, acquisition, installation, integration, operation, and maintenance of the college's integrated enterprise systems and network infrastructure.  The Lead Systems Administrator will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and availability of the servers used by students, faculty and staff; administration of the systems and network monitoring application; and proactive review of operational logs to identify and resolve service issues and state regulatory requirements. The position also serves as an internal consultant and subject matter expert assisting management in strategic planning and decision making and serves as a resource/ liaison for departmental and college-wide projects. This position will require a background check. 
 
Required qualifications: 
 
. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Information Technology or Software Engineering; and; 
. Eight years of enterprise server systems administration experience to include:
. Microsoft Server operating system configuration;  
. Server configuration management and production support;
. Enterprise class server systems and storage area networks design; 
. Enterprise class rack-mount server design and installation; and
. Operating system architecture, design and analysis. 
 
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 
. Knowledge of UNIX based operating systems;
. Web servers: Apache, Tomcat, IIS, JBOSS, Web Sphere;
. Knowledge of Java/J2EE, EAR/WAR files administration and deployment in UNIX and windows environments and web services;
. Knowledge of NAS and SAN concepts.

Essential Functions: 
 
Administration
 
. Serve in a lead worker capacity providing guidance and direction to lower level technical staff  in the design, acquisition, installation, integration, operation, and maintenance of systems, network hardware and software;
. Provide consultative and technical advice to high-level management in the management, design, and administration of systems and network. 
. Develop and implement standards and procedures guiding access and use of system and network resources, problem reporting and troubleshooting;
. Support and contribute to client and internal development project meetings;
. Communicate system trends, issues and outages to management, co-workers and customers;
. Coordinate design/plans and specifications sufficient for quotes, trials and eventual acquisition of systems, network and communications equipment.
Operation and Maintenance;
. Coordinate the testing, certification, troubleshooting, and resolution of systems and network problems;
. Integrate and manage systems and associated network connectivity , platforms, and protocols;
. Design, implement and manage typical Microsoft server and infrastructure solutions including Domain server, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, MS Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint and Blackberry;
. Manage configuration and change control of all servers;
. Ensure high availability of all systems, databases, applications and web servers;
. Perform server, application and data backups and ensure recoverability of servers;
. Insure server/system and client security for all systems. Participate in creating/updating documentation of build, backup and recovery procedures;
. Coordinate with  programmer/analyst teams, commercial off the shelf software teams and infrastructure teams in the support of servers hosting applications;
. Serve in a back-up  role for unified communications including VOIP, video and teleconferencing;
. Tune systems for high performance, fail-over and high availability in Microsoft environment; specially Exchange, SQL server and VMs, VM clusters, SAN storage;
. As required, provide support during scheduled downtime, platform outages and emergencies;
. Project-based assignments such as Main Administration Building Wing renovation, Liberty West relocation project.
 
Perform related duties as assigned.
