​For questions regarding applying for retirement, determining a retiree’s effective date of retirement, and how it will affect their participation in the State’s Prescription Drug program:

1.  Make an appointment to see, or talk to a specialist, visit the Agency’s website at sra.maryland.gov​, or call 410-625-5555 or 1-800-492-5909.

2.  To participate in the Maryland State Retiree Prescription Drug Coverage Program, you must retire with an effective date of retirement of December 1, 2019 or earlier.

3.  You must be off payroll prior to your effective date of retirement which must be no later than November 30, 2019 in order to participate in the Maryland State Retiree Prescription Drug Coverage Program.

4.  The Maryland State Retirement Agency must receive your completed application to retire on or before December 31, 2019 in order to retire with an effective date of retirement of December 1, 2019.  This provision is applicable to both active and inactive members eligible to retire. 

5.  For members of the Judges’ Retirement System, you must also retire no later than December 31, 2019, be off payroll prior to your effective date of retirement, and the Maryland State Retirement Agency must receive your application to retire by December 31, 2019 in order to participate in the Maryland State Retiree Prescription Drug Coverage Program. ​​​​
